Day 1: Delhi
Arrive Delhi. Transfer to The Oberoi, Gurgaon located just 15 minutes from Delhi’s airports, and half an hour from central Delhi. This elegant hotel is an urban sanctuary set on 9 green acres, with high ceilings and open spaces bathed in natural light.

Day 2: Delhi
Enjoy a full day tour of Old and New Delhi including the vibrant Chandni Chowk bazaar (closed Sun), Raj Ghat (Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial), Humayun’s Tomb, Qutab Minar and Jama Masjid. B

Day 3: Agra
Morning departure by road to Agra (5 hrs) via the Tomb of the Great Emperor Akbar at Sikandra. Afternoon tour of the magnificent Agra Fort before a sunset visit to the beautiful Taj Mahal (closed Fri). Overnight at the luxurious Oberoi Amarvilas featuring breathtaking views of the Taj Mahal, rich interiors, terraced lawns, fountains, reflecting pools and pavilions. B

Day 4: Ranthambore
Optional sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal (additional cost) before breakfast at hotel. Depart by train for Ranthambore stopping at Fatehpur Sikri en route. The Oberoi Vanyavilas is India’s leading luxury jungle resort at the edge of the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. Sumptuous guest tents feature embroidered canopies, slipper bathtubs and private walled gardens. BLD

Day 5: Ranthambore
Morning and afternoon game drives searching for tigers and other interesting wildlife in the beautiful Ranthambore National Park. BLD

Day 6: Jaipur
After a morning safari, drive to the romantic Rajasthani capital of Jaipur (4 hrs). Check in to The Oberoi Rajvilas, an exquisite resort set in 32 acres of landscaped gardens with arches, colonnades, pavilions and tented ceilings hung with silks. Afternoon visit to the City Palace and Jantar Mantar observatory. B

Day 7: Jaipur
Tour of Jaipur including the Amber Fort, Palace of the Winds and an optional walk through the busy and colourful market area of the Old City. B

Day 8: Udaipur
Morning departure by road to Udaipur, the ‘City of Lakes’. Stop en route at Shahpura Bagh, a grand 120 year old estate (see p30), for lunch before continuing south. Overnight at the Oberoi Udaivilas on the scenic banks of Lake Pichola. BL

Day 9: Udaipur
After breakfast, visit the City Palace, the 17th-century Jagdish Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and the Saheliyon-ki-Bari gardens. B

Day 10: Tour ends Udaipur
Morning at leisure until you are transferred to the airport for your onward flight (not included). B

Rajasthan and North India Overview

Why Rajasthan & North India: This is one of the most visited and famous areas of India, renowned for its dramatic history, romantic desert cities, ancient and mysterious temples, massive hilltop forts and colourful desert peoples, as well as the most beautiful building in the world, the Taj Majal.

When to Go: The best time to visit Rajasthan is October to mid April. Clear blue skies and a moderate to slightly chilly temperature (particularly Dec – Jan) make these months the perfect time to visit. From mid April to mid June it becomes very hot followed by the onset of monsoon rain. The monsoon continues until early August. August and September are warm to occasionally hot in the day with cool evenings.

Combine With: The vibrant city of Varanasi situated on the banks of the holy Ganges River and the temples of Khajuraho with their exquisite carvings and erotic sculptures.

Getting There: Fly into Delhi and then travel by air, road or rail to cities such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, Agra or Varanasi .
