Little Governors’ Camp

Approached by boat, followed by a short walk through riverine forest, Little Governors’ Camp at the edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve is blissfully peaceful and quiet. Its 17 guest tents are arranged around a large watering hole popular with both birds and wildlife, and all have large varnished decks to appreciate the many wild visitors to the property.

Breakfast and lunch are served outdoors, often attended by a family of resident warthog or local elephants whilst dinner takes place in the dining tent. A log fire in front of the bar tent announces the advent of evening and is an inviting setting for a sundowner.

Game viewing takes place at Little Governors’ Camp in custom-built 4WD vehicles with the option of hot air ballooning over the Masai Mara’s iconic golden plains. From July and October, one and a half million wildebeest along with tens of thousands of zebra and gazelle, make their way past this property to reach the sweet grasses of northern Kenya.

It is also possible to visit a traditional Maasai homestead (known as a ‘manyatta’) or to take an overnight trip to Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake.
