Day 1: Cairo

Board the Mövenpick Darakum today. D

Day 2: Cairo

Enjoy a morning visit to the Coptic Museum and Jewish Synagogue. Return for lunch before an afternoon tour of the Egyptian Museum. Filled with some of the nation’s best treasures, learn about over 5000 years of ancient Egyptian history. BLD

Day 3: Cairo

Rise early this morning for a full day tour to see the ancient Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, Memphis and Sakkara. Evening cocktail party onboard. BLD

Days 4/5: Minya

Today sail to Beni Suef and enjoy an Egyptian wine tasting onboard. On day 5 sail to Minya. Experience a full day sailing on the Nile marvelling at the unique and picturesque scenery. BLD

Day 6: Minya

The little visited city of Minya is a hidden gem in the Egyptian desert. Visit nearby Tuna El Gebel, the ancient necropolis of Hermopolis, and Beni Hassan, an archaic burial ground home to a number of fascinating tombs. BLD

Day 7: Assyut

Today sail to Tel El Amarna. An extensive archaeological site, the city was built by the Pharaoh Akhenaten in the late 18th Dynasty. Witness a presentation at the visitors centre and visit the tombs and the Great Palace. In the afternoon sail to Assyut. BLD

Day 8: Sohag

This morning set sail for Sohag. BLD

Day 9: Qena

Today sail to El Balyana. Visit Abydos Temple, the holy city of Osiris god of the dead and the temple of Seti I. Return to the boat and sail to Qena. Tonight enjoy a quiz night with your fellow travellers. BLD

Day 10: Luxor

Enjoy a morning visit to Dendera Temple. The complex is one of the best preserved sites in Egypt. Return to the boat and sail to Luxor. BLD

Day 11: Luxor

Early morning tour of the West Bank. See the renowned Hatshepsut Temple and explore the Valley of the Kings. BLD

Day 12: Luxor

Today visit Luxor’s East Bank and explore the two magnificent temples of Luxor and Karnak. BLD

Day 13: Aswan

Enjoy an early morning visit to beautiful Edfu Temple, before sailing onto Kom Ombo. Take an afternoon tour of this unusual ‘double’ temple, dedicated to both the crocodile God Sobek and Horus the Elder. BLD

Day 14: Aswan

Full day tour of the Aswan High Dam and the magical Philae Temple. In the afternoon enjoy a visit to the Nubian Museum. This evening witness a Nubian show, your last night onboard. BLD

Day 15: Tour Ends

This morning is at leisure, before disembarking after lunch. BL

EGYPT OVERVIEW

Why Egypt: This spellbinding destination offers some of the world’s most magnificent ancient monuments, as well as a insight into age-old Islamic culture. The scenery is also unique, with the mighty Nile River creating swathes of lush greenery amid vast expanses of stark desert.

Climate: Cairo has a milder climate than the southern part of Egypt; however temperatures between May-Oct may reach 30°-36°C. The rest of the year is warm to mild, and it can get quite cold on winter nights. Although quite hot all year round, Luxor and Aswan experience their most extreme temperatures from June-August (30°-45°C). Nights are cool in winter and hot in summer (24°-26°C).

Getting There: Daily flights are available from Australia to Egypt. Flight time is approximately 18-19 hours with stopovers depending on which airline you fly with.
