Cross the desert sands to the ancient oasis town of Siwa, one of Egypt’s most spectacular sites. Dominated by the ruins of a huge 13th century fortress and shaded by date palms, time seems to have stood still here. Your route will take you via Alexandria, as well as the Western Desert and World War II battlegrounds of El Alamein.
Alternatively you could drive from Cairo across the desert to Baharia Oasis, known for its Valley of the Golden Mummies, and its many dinosaur remains. Continue to the beautiful Farafra Oasis, with its wind and sand sculpted rocks like spectacular sculptures in the White Desert.
