The majestic Temples of Ramses II and his wife Nefertari at Abu Simbel are two of the most impressive monuments in Egypt. Built in 1300 BC in the Nile Valley, they would have been destroyed by the building of the Aswan Dam but were rescued in an incredible feat of engineering and moved stone by stone 280 kms south of Aswan. The commanding temples of Ramses II is dominated by four enormous statues of the pharaoh.
