Tsechus (festivals) are one of the best ways to experience the ancient living culture of Bhutan. A Tsechu is a Buddhist festival in honour of Guru Rimpoche, the saint who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. Local people gather in a spirit of festivity, celebration and deep faith. The Thimphu & Paro festivals are the most popular, in particular the Paro Tsechu with its unique unfurling of the world’s biggest Thangka. We can easily organise tours incorporating these festivals, however we recommend smaller tsechu's that will ensure an intimate, more genuine festival experience without overcrowding. If our suggested departure dates do not suit you, contact us as festivals are held throughout the year in almost every district. Another festival option is the Black-Necked Crane festival in November with masked and costumed crane dances and colourful markets in the Phobjikha Valley celebrating the winter arrival of these magificent birds.
